Safety & Privacy

Enjoy your AI companion with confidence. Understand how to use it safely, what connected AI can do and how to make informed choices about your personal information.

This guide covers Lumi Curious Cat, Lumi Calico Cat and AnAn Panda C2. Read it together with your product's instructions, labels, product page and the privacy notices provided by its companion app and connected services. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

Our approach to safety and privacy

The companion products in our range comply with the EU requirements applicable to their intended use. Compliance does not remove the need for age-appropriate supervision, careful handling or informed use of connected services.

For model-specific compliance information, contact Kanstar with the product name and model. General EU product compliance is separate from approval for a medical purpose. Our product pages do not claim that these companions diagnose, monitor or treat a medical condition.

Before first use

  • Read the supplied instructions and check the product, charging port, cable and accessories for damage.
  • Have an adult complete initial setup for children and explain how the companion works.
  • Use the app and download instructions identified for your exact model. Check permissions and privacy information before connecting an account.
  • Choose an appropriate language, role and volume using the controls available on your model.
  • Keep packaging, charging cables and accessories away from young children. Follow all age and small-parts warnings on the packaging.

Everyday handling, charging and cleaning

Handle moving parts gently

Use the companion in a dry, stable setting. Keep fingers, hair, clothing and loose objects clear of moving joints. Do not force the head or limbs, pull cables, sit or stand on the product, or drop it. Help users who may have difficulty handling its weight. C2 is a lying-down companion; walking and crawling are not listed functions of this model.

Charge with the correct equipment

Use the charging equipment and electrical input specified for your exact model.

  • An adult should manage charging for children or anyone needing assistance.
  • Charge on a dry, stable, uncovered surface away from heat, liquids and bedding. Do not leave charging unattended.
  • Do not charge while cuddling the product or place it under a pillow or blanket while charging.
  • Stop using or charging a product with a damaged cable, loose connector, unusual heat, smell, swelling or leakage. Disconnect the power if safe to do so and contact Kanstar.
  • Do not open the battery compartment or replace an internal battery unless the instructions expressly provide a user procedure.

Clean according to the product instructions

Switch off and disconnect the product before cleaning. These products are surface-clean only and must not be immersed in water; do not machine-wash, immerse or disinfect with chemicals unless the instructions expressly permit it. Allow cleaned surfaces to dry before use or charging.

In shared care settings, confirm that the approved cleaning method meets your organisation's hygiene needs before introducing the product. Keep electronics and batteries out of household waste and use appropriate local collection facilities.

Children, older adults and supported use

For parents and guardians

Use the companion together first and remain involved in your child's conversations. An age rating for the physical product is not permission for a child to create an independent app account or consent to data processing. A parent or guardian should manage setup, applicable permissions and any required consent under the relevant service terms and law.

Explain in simple terms that the companion is an AI system: it can sound friendly and confident while making mistakes. Encourage children to ask a trusted adult about anything confusing, upsetting or important. Take breaks and keep time for human interaction and other activities.

For care homes and families with autistic children

Choose activities around the person's preferences, sensory needs and ability to handle the product. Introduce sound, touch and movement gradually, provide support where needed and stop if the person becomes uncomfortable. The product should complement time with family, carers and staff.

For shared use, explain the connected features to users and, where appropriate, their representatives. Before deployment, the organisation should establish suitable supervision, cleaning, access and data-protection arrangements. Avoid entering identifiable care records, diagnoses or other sensitive information into casual AI conversations.

Understanding AI conversation

The companions generate AI responses; their words and simulated emotional reactions do not establish human understanding or professional expertise. Responses may be inaccurate, unexpected, unsuitable for the situation or different across languages. Child-friendly roles do not guarantee that every generated answer will be appropriate.

Use the products for conversation, exploration and companionship. Do not rely on them for medical decisions, medication management, safeguarding, emergency assistance or supervision of a person. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services directly; the robot is not an emergency alert system.

Lumi product pages describe 88 available languages and six preset companion roles offered in English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish and Chinese. Availability is not a guarantee of equal performance in every language. Check C2 language availability for your supplied configuration.

If a response is troubling, stop the interaction, discuss it with the user and contact Kanstar with the model, language, role and a brief description. Avoid including sensitive conversation content unless it is needed to investigate the issue.

Online and offline use

Lumi Curious Cat and Lumi Calico Cat require an internet connection for AI conversation. Their connected features can be interrupted by network or service outages.

AnAn Panda C2 provides its full conversational experience when connected to its cloud AI model. Without that connection, it retains limited conversation and response capabilities; the available offline functions depend on the supplied software version.

Offline operation does not itself tell you whether a device keeps information locally or synchronises it after reconnection. Check the applicable app and device privacy notice for those details. If you want to end an interaction, use the product's stop or power controls as described in its instructions. Do not assume that muting speaker volume disables the microphone.

Understanding the different types of data

Shopping and contacting Kanstar

When you shop, create a store account or contact us, Kanstar handles information such as contact details, order and payment information, support messages and website usage data. Our store is hosted by Shopify. Our Privacy Policy explains the purposes, recipients, retention criteria, international transfers and rights relevant to these services.

Robot, companion app and AI services

Connected conversation involves processing what you say or information derived from it to generate a response. Depending on the model and enabled features, the app and connected services may also process account or device identifiers, interaction history, settings and technical logs. The product-specific notices should explain the actual data used, the companies responsible and the purposes and legal grounds for processing.

The three products do not necessarily use the same app, providers or data settings. Use the notice presented for your actual app and supplied device. A reference to an AI technology on a product page does not mean that the privacy settings of a separate consumer chatbot account apply to your robot.

Before enabling connected conversation, review the service information for:

  • Whether audio is transmitted or retained, and whether transcripts or interaction history are stored.
  • Which organisations receive the information and where processing takes place, including any transfers outside the EEA.
  • Retention periods and how to access, correct or delete account and conversation data.
  • Whether information is used to improve or train AI systems and what choices are available.
  • Any local storage, later synchronisation and parental or administrator controls.

If you cannot find these details, contact Kanstar before activating the service. This guide does not promise that all data stays on the device or within the EU, that no recordings are retained, or that conversations are never used for service improvement. Those statements require confirmation for the particular service.

Practical privacy choices

  • Keep passwords, payment information, identity documents, precise addresses and confidential health or care details out of conversations.
  • Explain connected use to other people nearby and avoid use during private conversations or in confidential care environments.
  • Secure your home or organisation's network and use strong, unique account credentials. Install updates from the approved app or manufacturer when available.
  • Review app permissions and enable only those needed for the features you choose. Removing a permission may disable a feature.
  • Use available account, history and privacy controls. Before selling, giving away or returning a device, follow its instructions to remove the account connection and reset it. Request cloud-data deletion separately where needed; resetting the device may not erase data held by a service provider.

Optional website cookies are managed through the cookie banner or “Cookievoorkeuren” / cookie preferences link in our website footer. Website cookie choices do not change a companion app's permissions or AI-service data settings.

Your privacy rights and requests

Where applicable under data-protection law, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal data, object to certain processing and withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis. Rights are subject to the conditions and exceptions set out in law.

For information handled by Kanstar, email info@kanstar.eu. For app or AI-service information, use the relevant provider's privacy contact or ask us for help identifying the appropriate contact. Identify the product and app, and whether your request concerns an order, account or conversation data. Do not send passwords or complete identity documents in an initial message.

Requests should receive a response without undue delay, normally within one month. Where a lawful extension is needed, you should be informed within that first month. Identity or authority checks may be necessary, particularly when acting for a child or another person. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority; see the European Data Protection Board's authority directory.

Reporting a safety problem and obtaining support

Stop using the product if it appears unsafe or damaged. Contact Kanstar with the product name, model or serial number, order reference, a description and, where useful, photographs. For unusual heat, swelling or battery damage, ask for handling and return instructions before shipping the device.

New goods bought by EU consumers carry a minimum two-year legal guarantee, and longer protection may apply under national law. This is separate from any commercial warranty. The two Lumi product pages list a two-year commercial warranty. Any request to report delivery damage promptly does not shorten your statutory rights. Business purchases may have different contractual terms.
